When are save the date cards given?

There are people who would like to make sure their guests would be able to attend their wedding. Before sending the formal wedding invitation, which is usually sent a month before the wedding date, save the date cards can be sent to all the guests to make sure that the couple is planning for a wedding, and they are invited as a guest.

When are save the date cards given?
Save the date cards are given about 3 to 6 months before the wedding date. The card would consist of the name of the couple, and the date of course, but no time. No church and reception location would be printed on the card. Although including a state and country would be good, so the guest would know on where they would need to travel on that date.

Why send save the date cards?
Planning a wedding is not as calling a restaurant for a table reservation. A wedding requires processing of documents, searching for wedding suppliers and booking for a church and reception location. On those early months, the couple might not have prepared every detail that would be printed in the wedding invitation.  So before the guests plan for a out-of-town vacation, let them know on first hand that you would like to invite them on your wedding day.
