Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Co., Inc. (PPLIC) Tactics To Get Clients

Philippine Prudential Life Insurance

First and foremost, I think Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Co., Inc. (PPLIC) is not a scam, but a company who tricks people to get their service. They are near the word scam because of the tactics to get people agree to get their policy.

Here's how it goes:

1. They are in the malls, everywhere! They would ask walking shoppers if they have a credit card. If you say yes, then you are a lucky passerby who have a chance to win a car or on the raffle draw.

~~ If someone ask you if you have a credit card, debit or ATM card, or checkbook account, just say that you don't have one. They would leave you alone. And you would only be able to play the game after you go through all the process from their office.

~~ They would say that they won't sell you anything or make you sign-up.

2. They would say that this is quick and that you would get freebies. They would say that you would just need to fill-up a mini form.

~~ You would be able to get the freebie only after going through all the process from their office. Note that the mini form is not the raffle draw they are talking about. It's for the sheet they would print out for later use.

3. After filling-up the form, they would say that in exchange of the freebie you would receive, they are just asking for a little of your time. They would just like to introduce their product. It would be for 45 minutes, but they would say that if you don't ask questions, everything would be done after 30 minutes.

~~ This is the start of everything.

4. If you say yes, they would bring you to their office which is inside the mall. They would make you wait until the assigned person that would present their product to you be available. For the meantime, you would be called by the receptionist and ask how many credit cards, debit cards, checking account you have on-hand. The number of credit cards, debit cards and checking account would have an equivalent number of raffle tickets you would fill-up.

~~ On-hand meaning the credit card or debit card you have should be with you on that very moment. I'm not sure about the checking account. The assigned person to present their product to you would be whoever gets vacant and be available to "trick" you.

5. They would call you and go inside a room fill will tables with two chairs. It's a one on one discussion. The presenter would ask some personal information questions until they would ask you to fill-up your dreams for yourself, your family, and your children. Then they would go and get some drinks for you.

~~ The drinks are iced tea usually. On the branch I was tricked in to, they serve iced tea. The another glass is iced water but I'm not sure if it's for me or for the presenter.

6. The discussion would start. As a summary, you would need to pay them 6,650 Pesos which would be automatically deducted from your credit card or debit card. There would be a monthly fee of whatever amount you can pay. That there would be no decrease of balance for not being able to pay monthly. That this is a government bond made available in small amounts to lucky individuals selected. You would pay for a few years then be able to withdraw everything after a few years. The number of years are stunning as other insurance company would make you wait forever before getting the benefits.

~~ It's going to be a one day slot, meaning if you say no, then they would say that they can't do anything about it, and that you have more priorities than securing your family.  They would make you feel bad about it.  And if ever that you came back to their office, you won't get a slot anymore, and the agent can't help you about it.  And of course, that's a big lie!!!

~~ They would say that it would depend on the VISA or MASTERCARD international company if the transfer of funds would be approved. They would try to psyche you that they are not after for your money, for the points, but to help you, that they can't do anything if the card companies didn't approve the transfer of funds.

~~ Most women can't get out from their office even after the allotted 45 minutes. They say that women are most tricked to sign up because the agents try to hold women more in their office. The agents and the manager won't make you go without you signing up.

~~ They would say that there's no obligation to get their service to enter their promo. But they would do anything to make you sign up. They would corner you.

~~ You can get stuck on their office from 1 to 4 hours!!! I'm not sure if there's someone who got stuck for more than 4 hours.

~~ The agents can blend on with your situation. They have studied computer science like you do. They knew many people who work in SM like you do.

The company might have a good policy plan. The problem is on how they try to get potential insurance holders. The agents trick people and won't say the in and out of the plan. They won't say that you have to pay for a fix amount every month until the conversation goes so long and they give little by little critical information that a person should know. But there are far more information that they won't reveal until you sign the policy.

i was also tricked by these people, they were able to swipe my credit card and made me pay for the premium of the insurance... what i did was, i returned to that company, surrender all the insurance documents that they made me sign, and demand that they return the premium payment that they robbed me... and i was able to recover all my money... you can always complain.

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop November 9, 2010 at 4:51 PM

Anonymous,  November 30, 2010 at 12:18 AM

Magpapadala naman sila ng charge slip notifying you that they already deducted the monthly payment. Bago kasi pumirma sa isang kasulatan ina-analyze muna yun dapat. Lack of understanding will lead you to MISTAKES.

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop November 30, 2010 at 5:37 AM

the problem is, kapag sinabi mong you would like to think about it first, or sabihing pag uusapan nyo munang mag-asawa, sasabihin nila mismo sa harap mo na hindi mo priority ang family mo, that meron kang ibang priority. they would make you feel guilty.

then hindi nila sasabihin sayo lahat ng dapat mo malaman. magsisinungaling pa sila.

if they would only explain the truth, walang problem. kaso magsisinungaling sila.

and that day na kinausap ka nila, that day ka mismo dapat pumirma. sasabihin nila lucky ka raw kasi napili ka as makausap nila that day and it's a one time opportunity lang.

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop January 15, 2011 at 6:03 PM

aba! yung nagpapalit ng name and position mukhang foul na yun!

Anonymous,  February 23, 2011 at 8:38 PM

so ano pang ginagawa natin dito lets start a move now, and dami na nating nabiktima dito.. galit na yung asawa ko sa insurance na ito, hindi nman tayo makatanggi, dahil pag hindi ka kaya ng presenter nila, e mayroon namang back up na mag e-explain sa iyo.. e scma nga, dahil ayaw ka nilang mag refuse sa kanila e.. no money envolve sabi nila, e mas malaki ngang pera ang nakuha nila sa time na discussions nyo e, sa pamamagitan ng mga atm natin.

i think, pplic is not a scam.they are licensed company.and im one of those policy owner.well, i think ok nmn cla.infact, efren peƱaflorida is one of their policy owner.so i thin they are trusted compny even though the way the marketing strategy is not really good.

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop May 8, 2011 at 12:25 AM

the program is really ok for me, pero like you said, they way they try to get clients is totally wrong.

ilang days bago nyo nakuha ang refund? kc credit card ang ginamit ko and they said 30-40 days. magkakaroon ng interest sa credit card ko :( ang laki pa naman nun 19,900 ung sa akin

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop July 13, 2011 at 1:03 PM

hi anonymous, i didn't sign up on their paper, lumabas akong bad trip pero wala silang nakuha sa akin.

Anonymous,  September 29, 2011 at 11:40 PM

i used to work on the said insurance company. hindi lang sila ang gumagawa nyan. na ngunguna before ang family first. right now, beware narin sa PHILAM PLANS. and COCOLIFE. lahat sila meron nang mga mall operations.

"THERE ARE NOT EMPLOYEES, THERE ARE JUST LICENSE AGENTS"
SO IF EVER THERE GONNA DO LIES HINDI MO NA SILA MAHAHABOL.

be wise enough when they said
"double money" - walang negosyo ang pwedeng mag bigay sayo ng assurance ng ganun.
" you can windraw it anytime" - you cannnot to that dahil what your enrolling is a plan....
"you can cancel the plan, and you will have all your money back"
not true - dahil lahat ng plans ay may termination rules. so there still a percentage na mawawala sayo.

"takot sila sa scandalo" so you can always react negatively to them, at mawawala na yung strategies nila kung panu ka nila i-coconvince.

if your too good naman, while having the said presentation, try to do lies, specially pag tinatanung kayo sa personal life nyo, dahil yun ang ginagamit nila para tamaan yung mga ego, hearth ache, and weakneses nyo sa buhay. if you lie, syempre di nila magagawa yun. :P

isa pang TIP, don't ask anything. w/o a question mas mahihirapan silang mabentahan ka, they wont even know what where you thinking right on that momment.

LASTLY, sa una palang yung sinasabi nilang "RAFFLE DRAW" is totally not true! ASK FOR DTI PERMIT ON THE SPOT!

:P hope nakatulong ako sa inyo

I work with PPLIC..
as a promo agent our role is to invite people lang.. wala kaming prosyento at wala kaming kasiguraduhan kung magugustuhan mo ung product sa loob ng presentation you have your own judgement if you want to avail our products or not. we dont get anything from your credit cards, atm and all..THWC! we dont have technologies in which makakaltasan ka kung ipapakita mo yung credit card and all your cards.
Our promotions are not scams either! u'll get a chance to win Honda City on the spot / thru electronic draw! likewise with Bakasyon Grande trip 2 to macau.
If you find our products not that important to you, then, dont sign for any waiver na inaallow mo kaming magkaltas sa account mo. As simple as that!

@anonymous na nagsasabing "I work with PPLIC..

bakit di ka magpakilala!

"I work with PPLIC.."

good you have a work.

---------------------------

"Our promotions are not scams either! u'll get a chance to win Honda City on the spot / thru electronic draw! likewise with Bakasyon Grande trip 2 to macau.

hmmmm may nanalo na ba? nakalimutan ko, from when to when yung promo???

---------------------------

"As simple as that!"

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop November 3, 2011 at 11:08 PM

Just came from SM Southmall. I was approached by these people. Grabe, took me 2.5 hours to get away.

1. They misrepresent the product. Sabi nila savings to. Buti na lang, familiar ako with insurance. Additionally, they mentioned something about may tie-up raw sila with the bank.
2. When I said no, it took a long time before they gave up. They tried everything including making me feel guilty about wasting their time.
3. Marami pa silang sinabi. In the end, I did not sign up but I wasted precious time. Sarado na mall when I left.

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop November 7, 2011 at 9:19 AM

Oo ganun ang tactics nila.

I think maganda yung product nila. Actually maganda talaga compare to other, for me ah.

Pero just like you said, they misrepresent the product. Sayo savings ang magkakasabi nila. Sa akin naman is bond raw!!!!

Grabe

Thank God. I got my money back in less than 20 days. I was also a victim of this company. I didn't know anything about insurance. It was November 26, 2011, Saturday. Before they swiped my card, I asked them if I can get all my money back at the same amount whenever I want to close my account and they said YES. But after debiting almost Php17,000. I was shocked to hear about the Cash Value which is contradicts their first statement. When I got back home I immediately researched and found out about all of this. I went back the following day and I saw a Lady, married and who just lost her job, crying because she cannot redeem her money because she was also a victim years ago. I submitted my cancellation form and went home. Now I have my money back after checking as of December 16, 2011. Will somebody please report PPLIC located in SM Southmall. They are back again.

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop December 17, 2011 at 2:49 AM

actually, they're all over sm malls! i hope they would make their statements and explanation as truthful as in should be.

Anonymous,  January 21, 2012 at 7:28 AM

hi. i am also a victim of PPLIC and in fact, I have a second meeting with them and the Insurance Commission this Feb 1, 2012. as what was pointed out by the other commenters here, PPLIC is a duly-licensed company, but the manner in which they sell their products is very questionable. They deceive people, they claim that they are offering bonds, savings or investment, when all the while, they are only selling insurance. This act alone is the main reason why all of us should call the attention of the government and let this company stop from pestering more people. The reason why I am pursuing my complaint in PPLIC is because i really want this company to be sanctioned for its deceptive style of selling its products. because as customers, we need to be protected against these kinds of companies. It is our right to be properly informed of the nature of the products that we buy.

kahit na sabihin pa ng PPLIC that they have a 15-day free look up and you can still cancel your plan within that time frame and get a full refund, this already brings a lot of unnecessary stress to the client. kasi the cancellation itself takes a month or more before we can actually refund our money, not to mention the fact that you can incur more costs when making a follow up with them, such as fare or phone calls.

now, i am preparing for that meeting this feb1. i have 2 weeks to prep up in order to prove to IC that PPLIC indeed deserves a sanction and that this kind of trade must be stopped immediately. I was told that it is my burden to prove to IC that the contract that I signed with PPLIC is void from the beginning because of misrepresentation. I will update you all with what will transpire in that meeting. I hope i can take a video of that and post it in a blog after. and hopefully, the media will again give some attention on this issue. malakas ang loob ng PPLIC kasi imagine, this trade has been going on for years. but if we all make a firm stand against them, then we can all win our cause.

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop January 24, 2012 at 12:11 PM

@anonymous above me

mam/sir. do update us... me... and i would do a blog post about it. bad trip talaga yang pplic.

Next time uli.

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop February 10, 2012 at 2:43 PM

@sampaguita

Hi! I have an endowment policy plan with PPLIC, and I have been paying for two years. I wish to cancel my policy with them. Any advice on how I should do it? Thanks!

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop February 16, 2012 at 12:58 AM

hmmmm 2 years paying and would wish to cancel? i guess you should first read the policy... i mean the rules and regulation first before doing any action. because there should be something written about cancellation of policy where you signed.

what if i just signed up yesterday but did not pay the full premium amount. can i still get my money back?

Anonymous,  April 16, 2012 at 4:06 AM

Thanks to your blog and comments guys. I want to inform you that PPLIC still have the same tactics based from your comments and comments from other sites. I was tricked by this people this evening, 7PM@Robinson's Place Malate, because of their raffle(to win a car or trip for 2 to Macau), freebies(tumbler, wall clock, gym bag, pillow, etc) and number matching game(to win a car also) stuffs.
Requirement to avail:
1.Must have active credit card or ATM or both
2.Must agree with the "standard" 45 mins discussion/presentation of their company.(standard daw kase posible daw lumagpas)
3.Must be a first timer.
They had me agreed with those requirements promising that they will not sell me anything and Im not oblige to give them my contact#. The agent told me that it is for promotional purposes of PPLIC only. So the agent assisted me to their office at the 4th flr and transferred me to another agent who did the discussion.
At first(in the office), they checked on my ATM and credit card if valid. Since my credit card is not yet active, they only honored my ATM(dahil dito nacancel yung isa ko pang freebies, dapat 2 sana:D). They also asked the amount of money in my ATM, but I was not certain. So they suggested to have it swiped with their machine to checked the balance. With carefulness left in me, I didn't agree with the process and prompted to just leave if they will insist.
Because of my response, they quickly honored my ATM and began with the discussion. The agent introduced the company telling that it was founded by the president of the insurance org of the Philippines(sorry I forgot the name of the organization), that Efren Penaflorida was one of their policy holder and that they were accredited by Superbrands.
Then the discussion went on. I told the agent that I will give her only 45 mins. But she made me feel guilty with sort of things. Everytime I insist with the "45 mins" thing, we argue and she kept me feeling guilty and and in return it prolonged that conversation. To clear my conscience, I stayed with her for almost 1.5hrs(what a waste!). Even though I said that I have to do background check first, the agent kept on telling over and over that their offer for the "signing" and start of saving is only valid for the day. The agent was very persistent to make me believe with everything she said within "standard 45 mins" and entrust my money with the company I only known during the same they(the hell!). I ended up pissed-off with her and the PPLIC for my waisted time.I left their office bad trip and without finishing/doing the number matching game to win a car(kuno!). I tried to return the freebie(tumbler) to make them feel worthless but they never accepted it. Now, I have it in our house as a symbol of a very annoying company.

I had observed that the agent memorized the flow of discussion by writing important points upside-down with the paper and words facing in front of me while she is on the opposite side of the table.
In my opinion, this is not just a wrong doing of some agents using this deceptive marketing. I think they were trained to this kind of deception. This is a problem within the core of this very annoying company, PPLIC.

The agent was very persistent to make me believe with everything she said within "standard 45 mins" and entrust my money with the company I only known during the same day(the hell!).

Anonymous,  June 13, 2012 at 2:04 AM

mga manloloko yang PPLIC NAYAN! naloko narin ako nyan. yan yung mga taong sasabihin UP Graduates sila. buti narelease yung pera ko within 2 weeks lang. kalokohan yung 30 to 45 days kaya ganun katagal kasi patutubuin muna nila an pera sa bangko.

KES,  July 21, 2012 at 8:54 PM

I have same experienced as well. Kaninang hapon lang
Sa robinson's galleria.
Same old process and gagawin nila.
But since i was convinced at all and said hindi na kaya ng credit limit ko, pero ginawan ng paraan. Ginawa na lang niya na 'group term insurance'and debit an amount of 5200 on my credit card.

Ewan ko ba nahiya na ko na tumanggi, i was so fool. Siguro kasi naconvinced niya ko that he was a relative of the president ng PPLIC(mercado din siya).

Until i got home, and do some researched. And boom! I was shocked with the negative experiences of the other policy holder. and for that i want to cancel it immediately.

May pag-asa pa ba to cancel it?

@caesar no one can help you but yourself. you can't just sit there and ask for help.. check this out at http://www.berryblog.net/2010/10/how-to-refund-money-from-philippine.html

Thanks for this post. I just want to share one of my maddest experience to them. Lately, i was in sm southmall with my friends hanging out and waiting for our screen schedule of one cinema there. Then this agent named, "MJ" simply took our minute regarding their raffle and convincing promos! she said that this would only take a minute and just to write our name to the raffle coupon!. we're so amazed! because of the promos and prizes to be won without any money involved for just listening to their advertisement and company background. So, they requested a "standard time of 45mins." for us to listen. Actually, i told my friend not to join and it only offers you an "INSURANCE". Then, my friend told me that we still have 1 hour left for us and just to pay respect of those agents talked to us!. So i've accepted! i told them that in case, there is no "SAPILITAN" for the decisions we will make after this little talkings!. Then after 45 mins, and explaining the companies goal and plan "KUNO" finally, it gets to the point of this agents keeps on pushing me to release money a worth of 18k++ or a minimum of 6k just to avail their plan.! then i told them, "i was very thankful because of those convincing explanations and offers but i still decided not to avail ANY of your plans." i think they didn't want me to go! so they told me to wait to call my name outside for "PROPER EXIT" (Meh! GANON!). then there is a gay and women agents still fighting for their explanations and keep me pushing to release money to avail of those plans!. then i repeat it all over again!. P.I.! 1hr and 30mins na ayaw pa din ako palabasin dahil nga potential costumer daw nila ako!. then i texted my friend to ask people outside to request for my PROPER EXIT!.ansabi ko, "sir and ma'am! please late na kami sa movie na panonoodin namin and di ba sinabi ko na sa inyo na walang sapilitan kung ano man ang desisyon!. Please! nirerespeto ko po kayo. sana respetuhin nyo din ang desisyon ko!". then, i received a text to my friend saying, "WaLA NA DAW SILANG MAGAGAWA SA LABAS KUNG AYAW KA NILA PALABASIN". WAG NYO AKO PILITIN! SOBRA NA KAYO MANGHARASS!" then i walked out!... ISA lang po ang gusto ko mangyari sa post ko na to, PPLIC! pls train your agents in sm southmall on how to do exact selling! hindi yung kinukulong nyo sa loob nang room hanggat di nagaavail nang plans nyo! and please learn how to respect your clients' decision!!! fuck!!!

@anonymous above. first of all, may sinalihan ka bang contest na yun ang prize? if wala, wag mo patulan :)

I heard about scams like this pero di ko alam na PPLIC pala yun. So i was lured to go and check out their product because I thought saglit lang but no I was there for 3 fucking hours. Ok yung idea but persuading me to get it now? Geez. Since ayaw ko magpa-swipe ng card, dami other options. In the end the manager offered me another and I need to pay 500 nalang for protection plan good for a year. So i paid cash para matapos lang. Ang kulet kasi. Signed up some form. Since they were not able to get my card details wala namang auto debit yun diba? Kinabahan ako

Marilou / Lucky Cow Shop December 6, 2012 at 1:17 PM

i hope those mga nanloloko like them go to hell.

I was victimized by these dipshits last Sunday in SM Southmall. Was going to see a movie and they promised only 45 minutes but holy fucking Christ on a stick it took us 1 1/2 hours.

The skank who presented their shitfuck product pinned me and made me miss my goddamned movie. And to top it all off, they even said that I MIGHT DIE WHEN I STEP OUT OF THE OFFICE.

Seriously? Wish I could go back there and give them a proper beating.
