On Cigarette Smoking and Immunity
from http://www.teamsputnik.co.uk/
Last night on news on TV:
In Australia, there are about 16,000 (as far as I have remembered) people have stopped smoking due to an anti-smoking TV ad campaign. 76,000 (again, as far as I have remembered) people have tried to stop smoking. The ad features a Filipina lung cancer patient. She started smoking at an early age of 10 and got a lung cancer at the age of 30+.
I am against smoking. I have tried smoking, just a stick or two, just playing and trying it out. I have some officemates before that do smoke. We have the same work (programming) but I got the harder part and hearvier tasks. And their reason for smoking - to get relaxed from work. Hmmm really?
Okay, I respect them if that's what they think and that's what makes them relax.
I am just wondering - How come those Chinese from China (most of them) started smoking at an early age and still live long and hasn't developed lung cancer or tuberculosis? This is really a BIG question to me.
If they are not smoking, they are sure to be second-hand smokers since birty, even when still a fetus. Pregnant women doesn't care of the danger their baby may get when inhaling cigar smoke (as second hand smokers). They doesn't even care their baby and child inhale the cigar smoke too. That's their way of life. On celebrations, the host should even prepare one of pack of cigarette per person (this is their practice and not sure if is required all places of China).
They smoke inside the restaurants even there's the "NO SMOKING" sign in both English word and Chinese character. But why are they so strong not being affected by the harm cigarette smoking cause?
Immunity?
I know these facts about the Chinese from China becuase my husband, parents-in-law, their relatives and friends are from China. Those are all what I have see, experienced and learned from them. I'm lucky my husband understands me and my mother-in-law knows and understands some people just don't accept smoking like how they live with cigarettes. My husband just stopped smoking with out any reason one day and I'm so happy. But he still smokes when someone gives him a stick. He can't refuse as it may affect his work-related relationship with the person and I do understand that.
Things my husband learned from me on smoking... don't smoke when there's a pregnant woman, baby, child, and if inside a non-smoking area.
I hope there would be a good law about the smoking thing.
